Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are a natural looking alternative to fillings. Made from porcelain for strength, they are custom made to fit and fill most types of cavities, and are almost impossible to distinguish from your natural teeth. In comparison to conventional fillings, which require the removal of large amounts of healthy tooth, inlays & onlays only require the damaged portion of the tooth to be removed.

A dental inlay is much like a filling, but it fills cavities that are located on the cusps (or bumps) on the chewing surface of your teeth. Inlays are much smaller than onlays and can be made of porcelain, gold or composite resin.

Porcelain Onlays

Extensively filled back teeth can now be rebuilt with modern technology, such as with the use of porcelain, to restore teeth to their pre-filled condition. Our clinic utilises highly glazed, colour matched porcelain to rebuild back teeth to ideal long term strength. Teeth that are heavily filled with large silver fillings are at risk of fracturing and can be preserved with porcelain inlays preserving the remaining healthy tooth structure.
